Children of Light

You were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light.
Ephesians 5:8

The order of thought in this verse is critically important to recognized. Notice what it does not say: "If you children of darkness start acting like children of light, you can become Light." It begins with what God has done. He has already changed our identities from darkness to light in Christ; now He calls us to recognize it and be who He made us to be.
The truth is that you are in the light at every moment because, through Jesus Christ, you are continuously in God. "God is light and in Him is no darkness at all," the apostle John wrote.
Since God is light and can never contain darkness and you are in God, you can never be in darkness. We may not always be able to see the light in a situation; we may even willfully blindfold ourselves by sinning, but that doesn't change the fact that we're in the light. A man wearing a blindfold over his eyes may not see light even when he is standing under a bright floodlight, but that doesn't change the reality that he is still in the light.
You are a child of light. Believe it. Then walk in the light of His life with confidence that there is no darkness in you because you are in Him.
