I JUST WANT LOVE
SCRIPTURE: Ephesians 3:14-19
VERSE FOR TODAY: Beloved, let us love one another, for love us of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God (1John 4:7, New King Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Jesus Love Me"
One day a couple who wanted a baby very much visited an orphanage in the hopes of adopting a child. They were shown several children Of different ages, but one little boy appealed to them very much. They explained about wanting to take him to their home where they could take good care of him and give him toys. But he didn't respond and seemed sad. That puzzled coupled asked, "What do you want most? He replied, "I just want someone to love me."
Don't we all? The hospital nurseries confirm it. But even if one is deprived of human love, God's love remains steadfast and strong. So many children of the world need to be reminded of our love. But how important it is that we teach our children about their heavenly Father who loves them very much.
Just as a mother can kiss away a hurt finger, we can channel God's love to heal a heart that carries emotional scars of loneliness, anger, or rebellion. The dimension of God's love exceed our comprehension but we can ask God to open our eyes and ears and to stretch our heart to receive all the love He wants to give us.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Dear Father, when we think of Your creation, we are convinced You lovel us all. When we think of Your Son, Jesus, who came to earth born in a lowly stable to save us from sin, we are more of Your love. Because You gave Your Son for our redemption, we are humble and respond simply, "Thank You for the Wonder of Your love." Amen.

REAL PEACE
SCRIPTURE: Luke: 24:36-43
VERSE FOR TODAY: While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you" (Luke 24:36, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "It is well with my soul"
Is there peace in your life? It is easy to talk of peace when life is good, but what happens when a loved one becomes critically ill, when a job vanishes overnight or a spouse moves out, leaving us alone and hurting? God's WORD promises us peace unlike anything in the world; peace in spite of our circumstances, peace that passes our understanding. Why don't we experience this real peace?
Imagine trying to sit in an invisible chair. Suppose that every time you went to sit down, you were unsure of the chair's ability to hold you up. What I'd you began to even question whether the chair was actually there. Would you sit with much peace? As ludicrous as this may sound that is exactly how we sometimes act when it comes to trusting Jesus. We doubt His ability to hold us up; we enter into our relationship with Him with fear and uncertainty. Jesus came to His disciples to show them first hand that He is real. He invited them to touch Him and join Him in a meal. He extendeds the same invitation to us; to trust and not doubt, to know His reality and His love. How real is your peace? How do you feel about Jesus? He is real!
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your promise that even in this world full of hurt and disillusionment, we can have peace. Please forgive us for allowing the reality of the world around us to become larger than You. Help to know You more so that all our trust will be in You. Amen.

SEEING HIM CLEARLY
SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:39-55
VERSE FOR TODAY: Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, and my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior (Luke 1:46,47).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "How Great Thou Art"
We use magnifying glasses to bring object into closer focus. We can study details and observe with clarity that which would otherwise remain unseen be hopelessly blurred. Today's sophisticated microscopes open up world's of discovery to scientist and doctor and researchers. The lens of the microscope enlarges the object many times, revealing clues and insights showing the worlds that the naked eye has utterly no way of comprehending.
What sort of looking glass resides in our souls? Do we have souls that belittle and lessen Him? Do we look at the Lord God in such a way that we minimize Him because our blurry souls are incapable of recognizing Him for Who He is? Or do we magnify the Lord, and as see Him more clearly, joyfully give Him glory, worship Him adore Him? O that our hearts and souls light magnify God more each day, as we learn on him, trust in Him, learn a out of Him
Mary's beautiful speech to Elizabelt, praising God, reveals why her soul magnified the Lord. She knew Him well. She had memorized His Word, and quoted it. She knew of and believed His magnificence and His help and His goodness. And because of that, her spirit rejoiced in God her David
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Father, as our souls magnify You, the more clearly we see You, the more clealy we see You, dearly Lord. Amen

THE GREATEST
SCRIPRURE: Mark 12:28-34
VERSE FOR TODAY: Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth; give an undivided heart, that I might fear your name (Psalm 86:11, New Internation Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "O, How I Love Jesus"
With 248 positive commandment to Obey and 365 "thou shall nots," I think I would have asked the same question, "Which is the first or greatest?"
We speak of love so flippantly we love our dog, we love football, or we love pizza. But Jesus confirmed Moses' instruction the Lord was to be their first love, it sounds simple enough, but is it?
Total and exclusive love is a transaction of the heart which encompasses the mind, the emotions, and the will. Young Solomon felt a need when he became king, and in answer to his prayer God gave him wisdom and largeness of heart. In contrast to mental processes, our hearts respond with feelings and emotions. Sometimes our hearts feel happy or sad or perhaps loving or rebellious. Our loving God also gave us the power to choose, and loving God with all our hearts makes it easier to choose His way.
Response to the first and greatest commandment is freely given from an undivided heart filled with commitment, awe, wonder, and worship.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Our Father who art in Heaven, thank You for Your great love. In response, we give to You our first love. Purify it and use it for Your glory. In Thy Son's name , amen.

PRAYER WALKING
SCRIPTURE: Luke 24: 13-15
VERSE FOR TODAY: As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked with them; but they were kept from recognizing him (Luke 24:15, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "In the Garden"
Some of my best and clearest thinking often takes place while I walk. It doesn't matter whether I am on a beautiful country road or just trekking around the block in my neighborhood, there is something about walking that helps to clear my head and free my thoughts. Sometimes a walk with a close friend can be be all I need to help me sort out the answer to one of life's many dilemmas. However, often it is those solitary walks which renew me.change my attitude, and open my understanding.
Perhaps it is no coincidence that Jesus spent much of his time walking and talking. He walked with His disciple from town to town, discussing their concern and their questions. The two men headed toward Emmaus weren't looking for Jesus; in fact, in their minds He was dead, Jesus came to them, in their confusion and their hurt. He walked beside them, listened to their fears, and showed them how to face them. Isn't it wonderful to know that He still does that today? He is right here, waiting. Are you ready to go for a walk with Him?
PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord Jesus, it is easy to be caught up in the busyness of this world. Thank You for always being there, even in our doubt and confusion. Teach us what it means to truly walk with You. Amen.

LOVE BY CHOICE
SCRIPTURE 1John 4:13-21
VERSE FOR TODAY: There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love (1John 4:28 ).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "More Love to Thee, O Christ"
A woman was married to a very demanding man. He made her get up every morning at five O' clock. Cook his breakfast. And serve it at six O' clock sharp. He forced her to wait on him and was exacting in his demands on her time. Her life was made miserable trying to satisfy his requests.
Finally he died and after a few years she married again. This time she married a man she really loved.
One day while cleaning, she came across the instruction set of rules her former husband had written out for her. Carefully she read them over; "Get up at five. Breakfast six sharp." On and on she read. Suddenly it dawned upon her that she was now fulfilling every single one of his demands, but she did not realize it because this time she was doing it for someone she deeply loved.
How sad it would be if our children obeyed us simply because of fear. By the same token, we should obey the Lord's commandments because we love Him, not because we fear Him. This was the kind of love Christ was talking about when He said to turn other cheek, and if someone asks you to go with him in one miles, with him go in two. This is love "beyond the call of duty."
PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord, all the things You've asked us to do to give, to love one another to show compassion, to read Your
Word, and to pray help us to do them not out of fear, but because we love You. And we love You not for what You give us, but for Who You are. Amen.

THE GOOD SHEPHERD
SCRIPTURE: Luke 2:8-20
VERSE FOR TODAY: The angel said unto them, Fear not, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be for all people. For unto you us born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:10-11).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear"
Think of it! The angels could have gone to the palace, or the synagogues, or the estates of the wealthy and powerful and told them the good news. But of all the people in Israel, it was those closest to the Lord that night who heard from the angelica host, and those alone who witnessed the manger where company of heavenly hosts, praising God, bringing a message of peace and joy to the shepherds.
When the shepherds heard the good news, they hurried off tor Mary and Joseph, and discovered for themselves things were "just as they had been told."
And our Lord grew up to fulfill the angelic promise. He is our Savior, He is our. Wonderful counselor, and He is the King of kings. He is the Truth and the way, He is the Lord of all, He is the Son of God. He is the Chief Cornerstone and He is the Light of the World.
All people who love Him discover He is just as they had been told." To each of us, He is our Good Shepherd now and forever more
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dearest Lord! You are Savior, Shepherd, Lamb of God, Might God. You are all we need You to be, now
And always. Help us to always follow our Shepherd, Jesus Christ! Amen.

THE 'LIGHT OF THE WORLD
SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:67-80
VERSE FOR TODAY: To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. (Luke: 1:79).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "O Holy Night
What a difference the light makes! I remember as a child waking in the middle of the night, terrified by objects in my room. One night I was convinced an immense bear sat hunched on a chair be to me. I was so frightened I didn"t dare creep past it to go for help. All night long I stared at it, scarcely breathing, expecting it to lunge at me. Finally, finally, the night ended. In the morning as light seeped in,the ferocious bear turned into a heavy wool blanket. Crumple up.
As we approach the day when we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior, how thankful we are for the way Christmas light up the darkest days of winter. We who sat indarkness, afraid to move, given the Light our minds are lit up with the truth of His Word. The paths we should take are made clear by His Word. And all the things we once feared slowly disappear in the light of His presence and His promises.
What a great Lord we have! What a great time this is the Celebration of His birth! How grateful we are that the Christmas season and it's light bring warmed and light during this holiday season, but more importantly, Jesus, is indeed the Light of the world!
PRAYER THOUGHT: Heavenly Father, we are grateful for the birth of Your Son, Jesus. For in Him, we find love, peace, and joy that can only come because of Your Love. Each day we pray we may see You more clearly by the light You have given us. In His name, we pray. Amen.

TODAY'S GOOD NEWS
SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:5-17
VERSE FOR TODAY: When Zachariahs saw him, [the angel Gabriel] he was troubled, and fear upon him (Luke 1:12).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "O Come, O Come Emmanuel"
Zachariah's, a priest, "righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, blameless" (verse 6), had entered the Holy Place alone to burn incense before God when the angel of the Lord suddenly appeared. Outside, many people were praying.
Zachariahs was so fearful and troubled that the angel Gabriel's first words were, "Fear not, Zachariahs." And then Gabriel told him astounding news. A life long prayer of Zachariahs and his wife that they may have a child--soon be answered! This son would be "a joy and delight to you. . . for he will be great I the sight of the Lord" (Luke 1:14, New International Version). But it was almost as if the last thing this righteous, blameless man actually expected was as answer to prayer. His first response? Doubt. He even explained to the angel what he felt the angel couldn't possibly know, that he and his wife were too old.
When we pray, do we seek to listen to God, or do we tell Him what He hadn't figured out? Do we miss the magnitude of good things, even when we're righteous and blameless and standing in His presence in prayer?
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dearest Father, may we pray in hope and faith and joy, believing every word of Your good news. Amen.

AN UNWANTED CHILD
SCRIPTURE: Luke 2:1-7
VERSE FOR TODAY: She brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn (Luke 2; 7)
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Silent night, Hoiy Night"
Then there was no room for Him in the inn
Today there's no room for Him even in a manger. Each year we read more and more newspaper stories about another nativity scene being banished from our country first from the government properties, then the school, the public places, the private businesses. After all, we're told, we live in multicultural world. The sight of the baby Jesus in a manger violates the separation of church and state. The manger scene offends people of other faiths.Gradually, Christmas has become a holiday separate and apart from the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
What a lovely, sacred scene to have caused so much commotion. An adoring Mary and Joseph, gazing down at this child of God, with angels and shepherds worshipping in the background of the stable. A beautiful, pastoral scene.
But perhaps we shouldn't be shocked that this innocent depiction of Christ's birth is not wanted by the world today. We read out loud the lovely verse each year. "because there was no room for them at the inn" without thinking what that really means. The fact is, our Lord came toblesd and light up aworld that never did have room for Him. He has never been welcomed by the world, only by one heart after another throughout time.
PRAYER THIUGHT:Precious Lord, thank You for the great gift of Your life, for being born in a world that didn't want You because You knew we neede You to be our Savior and Lord. Amen.

SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:57-66
VERSE FOR TODAY: His mother answer and said. . .he shall be called John. .his father ..wrote, Saying. His name is John (Luke 1:60, 63).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name"
What a colorful assortment of first names are popular today! Recently I glanced through a listing of high school graduates and dismayed by the variety of wild spelling; names that looked more like haphazard combination of letters or places or simply sounds, than real names,
Names and the meanings of names are very important to God. We know Jesus by His names. In my office I have an immense wall hanging that lists just 34 of the names for Jesus (Prince of Peace, Counselor, Messiah. Savior). Each descriptive of His Character. Many of His names were first mentioned in the old Testament, in prophecies about the coming Messiah in the of Jesus" name specially chosen by the angel because Jesus means. "He will save His people from sin.
The Jewish custom was that the child should named after a member of the family. But when Elizabeth's baby was born. She insisted. This baby was chosen by God before forerunner to the Messiah, ordained to prepare the hearts of the people for the good news of the kingdom. The names "John" had prophetic promise, it's "The Lord is gracious."
PRAYER THOUGHT: Heavenly Father, we praise You for Your grace and loving kindness to usby sending a Savior, Emmanuel " the God is with us!" Teach us to follow the teaching of our Savior, and when we speak of the Messiah, May those hearing see Him in us. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

PROMISES
SCRIPTURE: Luke 1: 24-38
VERSE FOR TODAY: For with God nothing shall be impossible (Luke 1:37).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "O Come All Ye Faithful"
This wonderful news the angel Gabriel brought Mary was so amazing, so astounding, that even today there are some who can't grasp it. The Holy Spirit had no limitation; this is difficult for our earthbound knowledge to comprehend. The Holy Spirit is not limited by time circumstances or obstacles or distance. The Holy Spirit can create something from nothing because He is not bound by any limitations.
We know how this story ends. Those of us who love Jesus our savior, think of Him as an adult who taught and healed and died for us. Still, the miracle of His birth is mind-boggling for us, no matter how many times we hear this wonderful story. Visualize what it must have been for the young girl Mary! She had indeed found favor with God, and had faith to know with God nothing is impossible.
Each believer had the choice to share Mary's convictions and trust. We stand in a long line of spiritual ancestors and forerunners who believed, and trusted, and acted on faith. The only limitation Holy Spirit ever meets are those we set up. As we share the wonder of Christ's birth, let's also pray to share the faith of His earthly parents, and especially His mother, Mary
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Heavenly Father, may we speak, pray, think, and live from the Spirits perspective, Help us to believe, trust, and act as You would have us to do. We know that nothing impossible with you, dearest God! In the name ofJesus, Your Son who fulfilled Your promise to us Amen.

HYMN GOR TODAY: "Blessed Assurance"
The Car in the center laned stopped to let the two girls cross from the opposite side of the street. However, the driver on the curb side didn't see the girls and kept going. Coming from the other direction, I saw what was going to happen. "She going to hit those girls!" I scream to my husband
The first girl saw thecar and stopped, but the other ran on, only to be flipped onto the hood if the car, then back to the pavement.
I flung ourcar door open and ran over to comfort the injured girl, staying with her until the ambulance came. Later we were called as witnesses. When they questioned my husband, he said, "I didn't see all of it because I was driving. I just know what my wife told me." His testimony didn't count because it was only hearsay evidence.
A friend of ours accepted the Lord when he was eighty year old. "It's good to be on inside," he said, "instead of on the outside looking in." For years he had about the gospel. But hearsay evidence didn't satisfy. Now he was experiencing itfor himself and seeing it with his own eyes.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Heavenly Father, we're so thankful for Christian parents and grandparents. Thank You for the Saint in the church who have had such an I fluenc in us. But thank You, also, that we can know You personally, we can reach out and touch You, and can feel Your presence in our lives. Thank You Jesus, You are our Savior, who has made all of this possible. In His name we pray Amen.

SCRIPTURE: 1John 2:15-29
VERSE FOR TODAY: Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him (1John 2:15 ).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "CLOSE TO YOU"
A man was looking for a person to drive a truck over mountain roads. "How close can you drive the truck to the edge?" he asked each one. "I can drive to within ten feet," the first replied. Wanting to out do him, the second boasted, "I can drive five feet from the edge." And you?" he asked the third. "I stay away from the edge as possible. He was hired. To love God means to stay as far away from worldly things as possible. Dr. J. Wilbur Chapman put it like this: " Anything that dims my vision of Christ, or takes away my taste for Bible study, or cramps my prayer life, or makes Christian work difficult, is wrong for me, and I must, as a Christian, turn away from it."
An old motto reads: Say nothing you would not want to be saying when Jesus comes. Do nothing you would not want to be doing when Jesus comes. Go nowhere you would not want to be found when Jesus comes."
Perhaps my mother said it best when she oft reminded me, "If in doubt, leave it out."
PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord someone once said, "As Christians, we're not isolated from the world, but we're not insulated against the world." Let our prayer today be as close to You and to stay as far away from temptation as possible. Amen.

PEACEABLE KINGDOM
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 11:1-10
VERSE FOR TODAY: They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea (Isaiah11:9)
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Silent Night Holy Night"
Most of the time, France, my cat, maps peacefully on her rug in the carport. But let a dog, squirrel, or even a harmless little kitten invade her territory and Frances gets quite upset. The fur on her back stands straight up, making her a fierce-looking creature. She then arches her back, hisses, spits, yee-ow's at the top of her lungs and prepares to defend her space.
People and nations often act the same way. At the time of this writing, the Protestants and Catholics battle in Ireland. Likewise, the Tutsis and Hutus if Rwanda continually wage war. The Middle East remains a perpetual power keg. Lines between countries are carefully guarded, daring another to cross and risk being fired upon. The animal world and humankind are basically selfish. It's not our nature to share or give up anything. Even with a friend or neighbor, what's our first instinct--- to insist on our right or turn the other cheek?
God has promised there'll be a time when the wolf, lamb, calf, and lion play together with a little a little child guiding them.
One day Jesus will return and set up His peaceable Kingdom. Until then, He has p promised a reign of His peace in our hearts.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Our heavenly Father, forgive us when we act in ways that are unloving and selfish. Help us in living today to be more like Jesus example. Thank You for the peace He brings to our hearts and the promise that He'll return to establish His peaceable Kingdom. We pray this prayer in the name of Jesus, our Savior Amen.

LOVE IN ACTION
SCRIPTURE: 1 John 3:11-24
VERSE FIR TODAY: My little children, let us love not in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth (1John 3:8 )
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Make Me a Blessing"
I was driving the main Street in our community with my six-yearold granddaughter and we passed a lady pushing a grocery cart filled to overflowing.
"What's that lady got in that cart?" Heather asked. "Everything she owns," I explained. "She doesn't have any where to live." Heather was confused. "Where does she eat? Where does she go to the bathroom? What about when it gets cold?" "There are a lot of people like that here," I told her. "Some are families with children. They lose their jobs and houses and some live in their cars or under bridge," Tears filled her eyes. "Grandma," her voiced quivered. "Why don't the people who love Jesus do something to help them?" I had no answer.
Later I shared this story with a grotesquely misshapen young man at a writer seminar. Though his mind was Sharp and he expressed himself well, he told me how several churches had turned him away because of his appearance. When I told him what Heather had said about the people who loved Jesus, he replied sadly, "Tell her that the people who love Jesus don't always love other people."
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Dear Father, let it be said of our family members, "Behold, how they love one another," as, through Your love, we reach out to those around us who need Your help the most. Show us what we can do to share the blessings You have given us. In the name ofJesus, we pray. Amen

PASS IT ON
SCRIPTURE; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
VERSE FOR TODAY: For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scripture (1Coronthian 15:3, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "We've a Story to Tell to the Nations,"
While talking to a childhood friend recently, I made the statement, "I just don't witness enough anymore." "Thank goodness!" was her unexpected reply. At first I didn't understand her answer, then I began to laugh. She remembered! My mind went back over 45 years to an afternoon when, as a fervent ten-year- old, I held tightly to her bicycle handlebars refusing to let her go home until she came up to my bedroom and got saved." (Fortunately, in spite of me, she later became a Christian.)
Paul heard the gospel from the Christian he was persecuting. Now, in this chapter says, "What I received I passed on to you. .." and in Philemon 6, he urges, "I pray that you may be active in Sharing your faith."
This is clearer in John 28:6,7, when the angel said to the women at the tomb, Come and see. . . go... and tell. . ."
D.L. MOODY wrote, The monument I want after I am dead and gone is a monument with two legs going about the World--- a saved sinner telling about the salvation of Jesus Christ."
What has Christ done for you? Pass it on to someone today--at school, at work, at home.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord, help us to pass it on to someone today because your word is a light to our feet. And without You we can't do nothhing..help us to pass the gospel along to help save someone for eternity. Teach us to do so with love and compassion. In the name of Jesus.

FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION
SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:1-4
VERSE FOR TODAY: Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servant of the word (Luke 1:1,2, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Faith of Our Fathers"
"Remember that vase that's been passed down from generation to generation? a little asked her mother. "Yes," the mother replied, "What about it?" "Well the little girl said. "This generation just dropped it." When I was a young girl, I remember her taking eggs and strawberries to the parsonage. At her funeral the preacher used the verse, "She hath done what she could." Her daughter---my mother-- was also faithful to the Lord. A third generation Christian, I endeavor to minister through the written word. One of my nephews is a gospel songwriter.
As families pass clothing and furniture and heirlooms down from generation to generation, so has the gospel been "handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the Word. . ." Are we handing it down to the next generation---or did our generation "drop" it?
PRAYER THOUGHT: Lord, help us to realize that our children won't remember so much what we say as what we do. Let us leave them something lasting and eternal that they can pass on to their children. In the name of Jesus, our Savior, we pray. Amen.

Excitement abound in the town of Friendville, for the annual circus was about to arrive. "I can't wait until Friday night," Randy exclaimed to his friend, Mark.
"I know. The circus gets better every year. But I think The Herald reported Saturday as the day," Mark responded. "Well, I heard Friday at 7 P.M." countered Randy. "Wait, Randy, here's Josh, what's the scoop on the day and time of next week's circus?"
"Well, Mr. Martin, the owner, came to our house for dinner last night and he said it's Saturday at 1 P.M. Josh answered. "Thanks, Josh, now we know thedate and time for certain," the guys remarked. Rumors persisted in Caesarea Philippi, as to who Jesus was. But Peter, who'd been handpicked to be one of Jesus' disciples, knew the truth. He'd accompanied the Master and witnessed His miracles. No mortal man could perform such fears. Moreover, because of the assurance God has placed in his heart, Peter knew certainly that Jesus was the Messiah.
Who is Jesus to you today? The Scripture bear out with certainly that He is the Messiah.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Dear Lord, thank You that You have made it possible for Jesus to live in our hearts. Because His home us within us we know for certain Who He is. He is Your only begotten Son, the Savior and Light of the World--- the Messiah! Amen.

A new family moved into the community just down the road from a church. After receiving a flyer, the children attented Vacation Bible School. During the week, Mrs. Adams, the VBS director sent a note home inviting the parents to the closing program. At the program, she and the children's teachers met the parents and gave them a special invitation to come to Sunday school and Sunday worship. Later, the Sunday school superintendent called, the church secretary to Debra bulletin, and a deacon stopped by on his way home from prayer meeting. However, it wasn't until Bob, Pastor Robinson's and the Minister of Education, along with the Pastor, made an appointment and visited them, that the family came to church.
In the Bible, how did God communicate with His people? He spoke through the beauty of creation. Adam and Eve heard the voice of the Lord. He sent His message through certain people called "prophets." Lastly, he expressed Himself through His Son, Jesus, the One who was with Him from the beginning of time and His partner in creation. In Jesus, people could see the characteristics, mercy, and love of God. What is God saying to you today?
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Lord, thank You for the many ways you've spoken to people down through the ages. Most of all, thank You for making Yourself known to us through Your Son Jesus. His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary speaks si clearly of Your great mercy and love. Amen.

BRING ON THE DAWN
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 60:1-7
VERSE FOR TODAY: Arise, shine: for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and His glory shall be seen upon thee (Isaiah 60:1,2).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "The Light of the World Is Jesus"
"Come now. He doesn't have much time left." Don received the call just as he was preparing to retire for the night. His father had been rushed to the hospital following a heart. Quickly, Don dressed and headed out. On the five-hour drive, he thought about is dad. Don's spirit was as gloomy as the night. "I wish I'd been a better son, visited more often and called regularly. Now I probably won't get the chance to tell Dad I love him." As the blackness surrounded him, Don brooded, "I don't think I'ver seen a darker night." When he entered his dad's room, the nurse encouraged, "Within the last haft hour, he's stabilized." Don breathed a prayer of thankingiving. Then he recalled seeing a ray of light on the horizon As he pulled into the parking lot.
It's been said that it's darkest before the dawn. When the shadow of disappointment, loss, worry, or bitterness obscures the joy of our existence, we need only to turn to the Light. God who is light, gave His Son, Jesus, to be the Light of the World. In Him we find life. Turn Him on to brighten the darkest night and bring light to the Darkiest problem.
PRAYERTHOUGHTS: Dear Lord, thank you that You sent Jesus To be the Light of the World. When life's dark, turn out eyes to Him, for He'll bring the sunshine back to our heart. Amen.

A PLUMB LINE FOR LOVE
SCRIPTURE: Amos 7:1-9
VERSE FOR TODAY: MY Command is this: Love each other as I have loved you (John 15:12, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: Make Me a Blessing"
Our home was built in 1991, leaving plenty of time for the original structure to settle AND shift. Putting up wallpaper in a room presented an interesting challenge. We decide to use some wall paper accents in our daughter's room. My husband, a carpenter by trade, brought his plumb line to the room. He made a trustworthy lineby which I could judge how to angle the paper to keep it straight visually, even though the corners and ceiling were not true 90 degree angles.
We have a daily task to show the love of Jesus to the world.
It seems like an overwhelming task. Where do we begin? How about starting with the first person you meet today? Visualize the spiritual plumb line of Jesus loving that person. What tone of voice would He use? What kind of touch would he give? What expression would be on His face. . .and in His eyes?
The next question is, Will I adjust my thinking to express the love of Jesus through my voice, word touch, face, and eyes?: If the answer is yes," other people will see the love of Jesus in an imperfect World. Are you up the challenge?
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Dear Father, thank You for expressing Your love through Jesus in daily, one- on- one sItuations. Please help us to visualize how Jesus want to love the people we meet along our path today. Help us start at home

Amos had much bad news to report to his listeners. The first and last verses of today"s Scripture remind them of the source of information _ _ _* The Lord God All - Powerful,"
The first time the title, " The Lord God All-Powerful,"was used to identity God was in Genesis 17:1, when He appeared to Abraham. This began His covenant with the future nation of Israel. Many wonderful promises were made that day. "The Lord God All-,Powerful" kept His covenant. Along with all the good conquences, if the covenant was broken.
Amos mentions "The Lord God All-Powerful" nine times throught out the nine chapters of his book. He depends on the name behind All the promises; both the good and bad consequences of the covenant. Will you trust "The Lord God All-Powerful today!
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Lord God All- Powerful, we recognize the power and character behind Your name. Thank You for keeping Your promises Help us to keep our part of the covenant we made with You. Amen.

BLESSED EVENT
SCRIPTURE Isaiah 9:1-7
VERSE FOR TODAY: FOR unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Joy to the World"
Ken and Dee, a devoted young couple, active in church and enthusiastic choir members, faithfully attended choir rehearsal during Dee's pregnancy. At various times, he'd go out and bring her a cup of water to drink. She often did the same for him. In the latter months, false labor pains ensued, sending Dee to the hospital several times, only to be ordered to return home and "just wait." Ken was always at her side. Together they faced the repeated difficulty and disappointment. Finally, the day arrived when their baby, a bouncing boy, decided to enter the World. Happiness, hope, and joy replaced the Former longing and frustration.
As God's people, Israel, experienced a time of anguish, they received the promise of a divine child, whose glorious radiance would illumine the spiritual darkness. The advent of God's only begotten Son. Jesus, brought the hope of eternal salvation and lasting peace on earth.
Are there shadowy corners of uncertainty, failure, or sadness in your life today? Jesus light can dispel the gloom.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear Father, thank You for the blessed event-- the gift of Your son, Jesus--staged some 2,000 years ago. We praise You for the blessedness of His shed blood on the cross that purchased our pardon, allowing us to experience the light of eternity with You. Amen

WHO CAN SPEAK FOR GOD
SCRIPTURE: Amos 7:10-17
VERSE FOR TODAY: I can do everything through him who gives me strength ( Philippians 4:13, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Take My life and Let It Be"
God had interesting, creative ways of preparing His servants for the work He needs them to do In verse 14, Amos explains reasons why he is not qualified for the job description of prophet: he is not professionally trained and it is not in his family background. Have you ever used those excuses before? My husband and I have!
We both have degree in music and Biblical studies. He is a carpenter by trade. I am a private music teacher.
In 1998, we found out one of our children is deaf. What a life-changing experience. Our whole focus of ministry has changed. God called us through one of His servants to be the Director of the Deaf Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. We now serve as a family in many capacities only God could work together for His good.
Taking care of cattle and sycamore trees doesn't seem like the ideal prophet training college" from a human perspective. Yet, if you think about it, Amos listened with more than his ears to perceive the needs of cattle and trees. Amos was actively listening when God said: "Go prophesy to My people, Israel."
Who can speak for God? People who take the time to listen to Him first.
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear heavenly Father, thank You for knowing how best to train Tour servants for Your work. Thank You for being aware of our abilities even when we aren't. Help us to improve our spiritual listening skill today si we see Your will for us here and now. Amen.

WHAT"S IN A NAME
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 7:10-17
VERSE FOR TODAY: Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign: Behold, a virgin shall conceived, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln. What comes to mind when we hear these famous names? As a citizen of the United States, the first name may remind us of " "Father of a Country. "No doubt, the first president would feel pleased to be known as the one who became the source of this great nation. Then consider the next one. *Honest Abe," we might respond. We admire those who tell the truth and upon whose words we can depend. But, say "Judas" and we think of a wicked, self- csntered betrayed, "David," a man after the heart of God; "Peter," a rock, strong and secure.
In our own lives today, we desire to be well respected. When people speak of us, we want a pleasant image to cross their minds. We strive to secure and maintain a good name. God revealed Himself in the flesh, by sending His Son. Immanuel, the name by which God made His Son known means "God with us." Through Jesus, God"s presence encircle us. He's above to shelter, beside to encourage, and underneath to support. Best of all, He lives in our hearts.
What's in a name? Everything, when it is Immanuel neans God with us!
PRAYER THOUGHT: Dear God, thank You that when we trust and obey To Your Son, Jesus, You come to dwell with us and live in our hearts. The assurance that God is with us gives us joy and peace.
