If you have died with Christ to the elementary principle of the world, why as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourselves to decrees [religious rule], such as, "Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" (which all refer to things destined to perish with use)---in accordance with the commandments and teaching of men?
Colossians 2:20-22
Paul's question to the Colossians echoes down through the ages until today: "You have died to a system of religious rules, so why are you still acting like you have some connection to them?" The prevailing mindset of the modern church is that our lives are to be built around religious rules, but that is opposite from what the Bible teaches.
As long as a person lives in this world he is subject to the law of the Land. However, when he dies, the law no longer has any authority over him whatsoever. Even a murderer who dies is released from the law's demand on him.
You have died with Jesus Christ. It is now irrational to try to act as if religious laws have anything to do with you at all. You are free! Act like one who is free.
