VERSE FOR TODAY: At the name of Jesus every knee should bow. . .. and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:10,11, Revised Standard Version,).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "He Is Lord"
Today's Scripture is a Psalm, a Hebrew poem about God's anointed one. The Hebrew word for anointed is Messiah; the Greek word is Christ. In biblical times anointing with oil was a religious ceremony signifying that someone was chosen by God for an important office. We see examples in the Old Testament as this was done to designate and empower prophets, priest and kings
Psalm 2 is regarded as a messianic Psalm and is often cited as being fulfilled in Jesus Christ (Matthew 3:27; Acts 4:25-27; 13:33; Hebrew 1:5; 5:5; 2 2:17). No human prophet poured oil upon Jesus, the supreme prophet, priest, and king; but Peter affirmed, "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and . . .he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him" (Acts10:38, New Internation Al Versions) Jesus' ministry certified to the threefold office of His anointing. He is prophet and He speaks to us for God and unfold to us the future of humanity. He is priest adHe intercedes with the Father on our behalf. He is King of kings because God has given him "All authority in Heaven andon earth." We now before Him becuse He is truly our Lord.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: We look to Jesus as Lord of life, King of kings, source of love, and, and author of our salvation. Help us O God, to show by our lives the gratitude and devotion that we gladly offer to His glory. Amen.
