VEERSE FOR TODAY: For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe (1 Corinthians 1:21, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: " My Faith has found a Resting Place"
The gospel, God's power unto salvation, is for everyone who believes: for the Jew
and for the Greek. The message of good news is that Christ dierdf for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures.
When the apostle Paul proclaimed the gospel in Corinth, his hearers were Jew and Gentiles. To some Jews the gospel a stumbling block, and to some Greeks the message foolishness. Why these responses to the message? The Jewish people thought of their diliverer as a temporal king. He would sit on David's throne. There was no place in their thinking for a crucified king. Such a thought was repulsive. Do the Need stumbled.
To the Greeks the gospel message was foolishness. They thought it was ridiculous to believe that by one man's death and resurrection we can be saved.Hiw can anyone be saved through another person's death? So the Greeks considered the message to be foolishness.
"God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe," The message is still God's power for the Jew for the Greek.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your love and grace, which have made possible our salvation.Thank You for the power of the gospel, available to all who will believe. In Jesus' name Amen
