VERSE FIR TODAY: After his suffering, he showed himself to these men and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared tothem over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God (Acts 1:3, New Intetnational Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Christ Arose"
The entire ministry of Jesus Christ was Characterized by power. At the beginning and closing of His ministry, His might and power are emphasized. "He taught them as one having authority" (Matthew 7:29). He "was a prophet mighty deed and word before God and all the people" (Luke 24:19). By His word He stilled the tempest, cast out demons, and restored life to the widow's son of Bain, to Jairus' daughter, and to Lazarus who had been dead for four days.
His deeds were powerful. Here is a classic summary statement: "The blind see, lame walk, the lepers are cleaned, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and to the poor the gospel is preached" (Luke 7:22). The ultimate deed of power was His ressurection. The grave clothes, the massive stone, the Roman guard, and death itself could not keep Jesus in the tomb. He arose! What a manifestation of power! The apostle Paul wrote of the mighty power that God exerted when He raised Christ from the dead, (Ephesians 1:19, 20). The resuurection is a glorious demonstration of power and victory.
Prophet is a title for the Messiah. Jesus' mighty words and deeds are God's confirmation of Him.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Heavenly Father, thank You for Your indescribable gift in Christ Jesus. Thank You for His ministry. his death, burial and resurrection. Thank You for the eternal life that is ours in Him. In Jesus name, Amen.
