A WISE FOOLISHNESS

SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 4:8-13
VERSE FOR TODAY: We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ (1Corinthians 4:10, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Anywhere with Jesus"

Fools are everywhere. One TV talk-show host said, "There is no God---only the Camera will not let you down." Said a man in Cleveland after the browns football team moved to Baltimore, "Now my family and I have nowhere to go on Sundays" A shipping billionaire said, "When it comes to money, you must be willing to sell out your dearest friend."
The apostle Paul decided that there was only one person in the universe to whom he would totally commit his life. Only to Jesus would he submit his time, talents, and treasures---in fact, his very soul. When one makes that commitment one must expect to be ignored, ridiculed, and on some cases persecution for his decisions. One must expect to be rejected and to be called a fool, but eternity will show that he is wiser than those who scorn him.
God has chosen a method that feel is absurd as the way to save the world. He sent His Son as a man. This man endured death on the cross to bring about forgiveness of man's sin. How foolish this sound! That is, until you believe and respond to the truth. Then what seemed foolish is understood as a marvelous truth.

PRAYER THOUGHTS: O God, it is difficult to accept the ridicule of those who think that being a Christian is an absurd decision. Give us the strength to stay faithful. In the name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
