FAUTHFUL TO THE END

SCRIPTURE: 1 Timothy 6:12-16
VERSE FOR TODAY: Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23, New Internatiinal Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "O FOR a faith that Will not Shrink"

Benedict Arnold is known as the man who sold his loyalty for money and prestigious position in the British military. After his treason, he led British troops who terrorised his former neighbor's in Connecticut. But he was disappointed with the results. He received only a third of money he was promised. After the war he lost his position in the British army. His investment were disappointing. In England he lived the rest of his life in dishonor, scorned by British and American citizens alike.
Christian service is not always glamorous. On occasion it is filled with doubts and fears. Even John the Baptist needed reassurance as he lay in Herod's dungeon (Matthew 11:2-6. But those who have made the "good confession" of their faith in Christ refuse to give up their loyalty. They "fight the good fight" as they press on to receive the gift of eternal life. They know turning against Christ would be more disappointing than Arnold's treason.
God can give us the confidence we need to remain faithful in every situation. He can also bring us peace and contentment in the place He has called us to serve.

PRAYER THOUGHTS: God, purify my motives as I glorify Your name through my life. Give me the courage to remain faithful in difficult circumstances. Forgive me when I put my selfish ambition in front of your will and your kingdom. Amen.
