VERSE FOR TODAY: Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time (1 Peter 5:6, New International Version)
HYMN FOR TODAY: "I Am Thine, O Lord"
The poet has asked, "What is so rare as a rose in December?" To this we may add," or a genuinely humble leader." However, a spirit of humility lives in a leader who functions as an acceptable servant in the church.
Humble persons serve the kingdom, not compelled by a grim duty, but because they are driven by the delights that come from service. They gave a vision of what persons and churches can become when God becomes a force in their lives.
A sense of the eternal value of our labors brings joy.
Humble servants are those who are driven by love of person rather than "filthy lucre," money. Television is a wonderful medium for telling the world about Jesus, but much of its effectiveness has been destroyed by persons greedy for gain. Shall we not pray that God will raise up honest and loving servants for this ministry?
Humble servants are in leadership, because they have a genuine concern for the church. Humble leaders have no desire to be dictators. Rather than dominate others, they want to direct others to Christ, who is Lord of life.
Humble leaders are motivated by the words of the Master,
Who said, "I am among you as one who serves."
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Take away our thirst for power, prestiges, and personal glory, and put in us the spirit of humility. In the name ofJesus. Amen.
