VERSE FOR TODAY: When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus (Acts4:13, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Tis So sweet to Trust in Jesus"
Can you imagine what it would be like to preach a message about Jesus and be put in jail for doing it? That"s what happened to Peter and John. Any suffering that comes of serving Jesus is small compared to what came to Him.
A friend in Pennsylvania shared the following experience with us: "Some times ago I was invited to attend a concert. The meeting took place at a small church in our community. After the performance, a few girls stood to give their testimony. I was impressed most by one who based her witness on something the group had done as a psychological experiment. She said that when they stopoed during one of their tours to get something to eat, all of them at a prearranged signal pointed at one specific thing. The power of suggestion was remarkable, for many people stopped to see the object of the group"s attention. The young lady giving her testimony remarked that the thought suddenly came to her that Christ should likewise be the object of our life and witness. Then the sinners too would stop to see who is so important that all of us were focusing attention in His direction. Ever since I heard that testimony, I've tried to do more pointing at Jesus!"
PRAYER THOUGHTS: O God, we pray the world will see Jesus living in us. We want to be shining lights in a world of darkness. Help us not to become discouraged by rejection or persecution from others. We desire to serve You by the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
