VERSE FOR TODAY: You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near (James 5:8, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Jesus I My Cross Have Taken"
During the blizzard of 1996, a cargo ship lost thousand of dollars by a delay on the James River. A drawbridge failed to open because the ice on it was to heavy to be lifted. The ship anchored for four days until rising temperatures melted the ice.
In Peter's days, Jewish Christians battled cultural prejudice. Both groups suffered random persecution. They were tempted to return to former lifestyles. Peter encouraged hid readers to focus on positive principles of their faith, such as goodness, godliness, and perseverance. They had been called by God to new life. They could not let temporary struggles destroy their effectiveness to kingdom.
We too are called to glorify God thought holy spirit. Like the stranded ship on the James River, we can be tested by setbacks. Our spiritual progress can come to a screeching halt when our frustrations lead us to lose sight of God's will.
Today, ask God for patience as you work to understand His direction for your life. Refuse to allow today's disappointments to rob you of tomorrow's victories.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Dear God, sometimes Iam discouraged by circumstances that force me to step back and choose a new direction. As I wait for Your leading, give me strength to maintain my convictions and my daily walk with You. Amen.
