VERSE FOR TODAY: They urged him strongly, "Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over." So he went in to stay with them (Luke24:29, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: ''Abide With Me"
The teeth were brushed and the stories were read. Bedtime was finally upon us. As we finished her prayers and reached for the light, our little daughter would reach out a tiny hand and say, "Stay with me, Mommy, please just stay with me."
What parent hasn't experience that moment? Our daughter didn't really want anything, we didn't even talk, I just sat beside her, holding her hand. All she wanted was simply my presence, to know that I was there and that Loved her.
Imagine how that walk to Emmaus must have been for Cleopas and his friend. Here was someone who seemed to care about their questions and their concerns. As they walked with Jesus and talked with Him, their desire to know more about Him grew. When they reached Emmaus, they asked Jesus to stay with them because they wanted not only more of His wisdom, they wanted more of His presence. These two men longed for the companionship of the living Christ and when they invited Jesus in, He showed them more than they had ever dreamed. He longs to have that same companionship with us.
Let us asked Him to come and to stay!
PRAYER THOUGHT: Jesus please come and stay with us. Open our eyes to see You as You really are. Thank You for listening to our hurts and cares. Help us to learn how to listen to and learn from You. In this New year 2022 . Amen.
