WITH ALL YOUR HEART

SCRIPTURE: Matthew 22:34-40
VERSE FOR TODAY: Jesus replied: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matthew 22:37, New International Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Lord, Speak to Me, That I May Speak"

We end the week with the first and greatest commandment: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind." Earlier this week the commandment was read from Deuteronomy 6:5. These words were recited by the Jew twice daily. The words were known as the Schema, meaning "Hear." Every Jewish child would commit this verse to memory. Is it written on your heart?
One does not drift into Christianity. This Commandment speaks of a total commitment to God.
In Jeremiah 31, God describes a New Covenant that He would established with His people. The New Covenant would be written on the hearts of His people. Total love is internalizing the commandment of God into the very being of our lives. This truth is interwoven into our thing and behaviour. Paul describes this process as a renewing of our minds. The renewal begins to change the way we think, feel, and act.
Absorbing this first commandment into our daily walk allows us to fulfill the second commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself."

PRAYER THOUGHTS: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Into Your presence i come boldly because of your Son Jesus. I come praising You for Your unlimited love and I am mindful that while we were yet sinners, You gave the divine gift of Your Son. Lord, You are my heart's desire. In Jesus" name Amen.
