VERSE FOR TODAY: The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made (Psalm 145:9, New International Version).
We are God's creation. The psalmist reminds us of the divine characteristics of the Creator gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, rich in love, and good to all of his creation. Our proper response to this is praise the Lord! He is good His mercy endures forever.
Compassion is a deep understanding of the suffering with a desire to relieve that suffering. God is gracious and provides the strength for our victory over the trials and changes in life. He alone shows such compassion.
God's compassion is a constant. This immutable characteristic of God is based on His faithfulness to all that he has made. He alone is the constant in life.
In March, 1996, sixteen primary school children and their teacher were killed by a mad gunman in Dunblane, Scotland. It was a tragedy that shocked Britain. The faces of the parents, school staff, and emergency care professionals reflected the profound suffering and grief. Compassionate words were sent to that small, suffering community from all over the world. The community responded to the compassion of humanity as they brought order back into their lives.
Reach out to someone hurting and suffering. Cover him or her with the compassion you have received from Christ.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Father, Your kingdom is from everlasting to everlasting. Thank You for Your faithfulness to Your creation. Through the strength You give me I will Remain faithful to You and Your kingdom. In Jesus name, Amen.
