VERSE FOR TODAY: But we are. . . Of them that believe to the saving of the soul (Hebrew 10:39).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "Faith is the Victory"
Little Joe had never seen sherpherd until he stood up to say his Christmas piece. When he saw the costumed figures waiting off stage, he became frightened. However, he gave his recitation despite tears of fright rolling down his tiny cheeks.
Some declare they aren't afraid of anything. But most of us can't say that. What you sow, of course you will harvest. Life calls for courage. Faithfully serving Jesus Christ calls for a courage based on faith and hope. Christian's need to fight their battles singles-handedly. God has promised to give us the strength to be victorious to our battles.
After Jesus ascended to Heaven it took courage for the early Christians to maintain their faith and hope in Christ. It also took courage for them to trust God for protection when the destruction of Jerusalem was imminent. However, God proved faithful. History does not the death of even one Christian when the city was destroyed.
Faith enables us to hope when Dad is laid off at work, Mom has to go to the hospital, and the children cannot understand why they can't have more worldly possessions.
Like little Joe, we may shed few tears of fear at times, but we still can hope because our faith is in God.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: Dear Lord, help me to draw strength from You. May I remember that my hope is in You. Not only do I trust You for salvation, I also trust You to supply my temporal needs. Amen
