VERSE FOR TODAY: Each one should use whatever gift he had received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms (1 Peter 4:10, New Internatiinal Version).
HYMN FOR TODAY: "A Charge to keep I Have"
In the winter of 1996, Christina Koo Speirs of Orlando, Florida, received her first college acceptance letter. She couldn't wait to share the news with her eighth grade classmates
That's right! Christina was a thirteen-year-old middle schooler and joined fewer than one hundred students her age across the nation in skipping their entire high school experience. Teachers who recognized her high IQ also noted her keen sense of rightness and humble spirit.
The church of the New Testament was full of gifted people (Roman 12:6). Unfortunately, some saw their giftedness as a mark of distinction and superiority. Paul encouraged these people to renew their minds and to learn to serve with the single purpose of pleasing God.
When our motives are impure we spoil God's blessings. Our need to be noticed and appreciated sometimes clouds our thinking and infects our hearts.
Let's put spiritual gift in their proper perspectives. These gifts are given for equipping and building up of the entire body of Christ. Today, look for opportunities to use your gift as you share the message of Jesus with a lost and dying world.
PRAYER THOUGHTS: God, thank You for the variety of gifts You have placed within Your church. Help me grow in the stewardship of my gift, and teach me to encourage others as they discover talents to be used in Your kingdom
Amen.
